PREPARATION OF SILK COCONS

silk cocoon

A cocoon is composed of about 1 kilometer NATURAL SILK

The cocoons of silk are immersed together in hot water ...

This process kills the chrysalis and dissolves the gum, a sticky substance from which each cocoon is impregnated.

When the cocoons are ready, they are stirred to better release the end of the natural silk yarn that composes them and thus be able to decocify them.

Several cocoons (10 on average) are decociated simultaneously using the wooden tool visible above to form the final thicker natural silk thread, already braided and welded thanks to the presence of the gum in the solution during the Cooling, the silk yarn thus made - 'raw' Silk - is rewound in the tread.

One kilogram of raw silk represents eight to ten kilograms of cocoon.
