Terms Description retailed
Acconier
Maritime handling entrepreneur who assures the loading or the discharge of the ships notably. This term especially uses itself in Mediterranean; for the ports of the North : « Stevedore ».
Accorage

Chartering

Shipping agent or trustee of ships
Representing the operator of the ship (shipowner or shipper in time) in a port of stopover. He recruits freight, deliver the merchandise, help the captain. He/it is remunerated by commissions on freight and fees of consignment.

Avitaillement
Provisions, fuels and various supplies destined to the working of the aerial and maritime means of transportation as well as the food and the comfort of their passengers and crews.
BAF
Bunker Adjustment Factor: Tax serving to compensate the variations of the prices of fuels (maritime transportation).
Bill of Lading B/L. Bill of lading: maritime transportation document

Certificat of origine

Unique administrative document

Engagement de fret Booking notes. Espèce tarifaire
Nomenclature of a product in application of the customs tariff.
ETA Estimated Time Arrival. Date and hour foreseen of arrival of the ship in the port of stopover (if one doesn't specify the GMT, it is that it is about the local time).

Empty Trans Departure of. Empty container.
ETD
Estimated Time Departure of. Date and hour planned for the departure.
Faculté Goods insurance, cargo insurance. Concerning insurance in which the insurers cover the total loss, the common damage, with the exception of the particular damages (Free of particular average).
FAP F.P.To. = Franc of particular damages. Formula of insurance in which the insurers cover the total loss, the common damage, with the exception of the particular damages (Free of particular average).
FAP sauf
Formula of insurance analogous to the F.To.P. but covering, in addition, the damages due to some reasons to specify in the police (in general: boarding, échouement, fire, explosion, shock of a stationary or floating body).
Fortune de mer Perils of the sea. Accident of all natures occurring in sea to the ships and to the elated goods.
Full container load
FCL = complete container: Loading of your goods in one unique container. The container is generally put in place in the local of the sender and is opened in the local of the recipient.
Gerbage Stacking. Empilage of containers or packets one on the other.
Groupage LCL = Less than Container Load: The merchandise is taken in charge by a groupeur (intermediate between the shipper and the company of transportation) who after having gathered it with other consignments for the same destination, puts back a complete share to the carrier.
Handling charge Expenses consecutive to the different manipulations undergone by the containers in the deposits or terminal. Expenses of various handlings.
Landing charges Expenses of discharge being added to freight.
LCL Less than Container Load = collecting: Says itself of an expedition not justifying the complete use of a container. The merchandise is taken in charge by a groupeur (intermediate between the shipper and the company of transportation) who after having gathered it with other consignments for the same destination, puts back a complete container to the carrier.
Store or temporary deposit area (M.A.D.T.) Place accepted for the temporary deposit of in waiting goods of a customs destination (for a delay of 45 days if it is about an import by maritime way, 20 days for all other type of import).
Store or area of export (M.A.E.) Place accepted for the storage of the goods declared to the export and that must make the object of a special surveillance on behalf of the service of the customs.
Mainlevée
Act by which the agent of the customs after achievement of the formalities of the declaration in detail allows the declarant to remove some goods to give the destination in conformity with the régime under which they have been declared.
Manifeste Manifest. Maritime or aerial transportation document that sums up the set of the goods charged in a port or airport to another port or airport.
Notification
Notify adress. Mention that one affixes on the document of transportation to specify people to warn at the time of the arrival of the merchandise.
Réserves Observation of shortages and damages to the hold in charge of goods, in order to determine the responsibilities subsequently.
Ro-ro/Roll on - Roll off
Cart driver (ship) or Ro-ro. Ship to handling and to loading horizontal (by doors placed to the rear or on the side and by stationary or mobile interior rails).
Slot
Site for a container on a ship door-containers.
Surfret
Supplement raising freight according to the clutter of the ports (surfret of clutter = congestion charges), of the elevation of the price of the fuel (combustible surfret = bunker overloads), etc.
Transitaire
Beneficiary of service who is in charge for the account of his/her/its customers, where he/it is installed, of the set of the relative operations to their goods: rupture of load, handling, storage, various commercial and administrative formalities.
